Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” Ruth 1:16
Grief, empathy, and loyalty
Summarize my bittersweet life
In a way which I had never expected.
I am, in a multitude of aspects, shaped by God through my sorrow.
I felt a terrible pang in my chest
Upon discovering the death of my husband.
Grief overwhelmed me, and anxiety,
As I awaited my next circumstances.
But, as time proceeded,
I, in agonizing empathy, noticed as Naomi,
My dear mother-in-law, helplessly watched her relations die.
The sight of my own sorrows had I lost.
So I waited by her side, despite her expected bitterness,
With faith in the Hand of the Lord.
Surely blessed we became
As a result of my loyalty.
In faith, together, we awaited our next circumstances,
Noticing the Lord’s favor in simple blessings.
In loyalty, together we rode the waves of grief
And surely we were comforted; we were blessed.
