Coping with Depression

Coping with Depression the Godly Way

Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light. -Micah 7:8

Depression is nearly an epidemic, as many, many people suffer from this emotional state. I was diagnosed with chronic depression, so I am all too familiar with its effects and the misery of the darkness associated with it.

The Light, the Joy of the Lord

Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!” -Nehemiah 8:10

We cannot rely on ourselves, our broken nature, in order to obtain happiness. The joy of the Lord is lasting, for he is the Living Water and the Cup that Runneth Over. His joy strengthens us.

In trusting the Lord, worry and fear is overcome. It is not as simple as it seems, however, for trust and faith are hand-in-hand. Pray for faith that trust might be established. This will help to remove the grime of fear, of worry, in one’s life, sharpening his or her relationship with Christ.

Relationship and Servitude

By personal experience, I have learned that obeying God and acting in an honorable way not only increase God’s favor, but provide joy and a sense of intimacy with God. God draws near to the righteous and pure in heart, and his ears are attentive to their cry.
