Coping with Doubt the Godly Way
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. -James 1:6
The one who doubts is described as a wave, unstable with each coming and passing circumstance. Unfortunately, I doubt. I believe everyone doubts something in their life. This verse isn’t meant to be condescending, as I once thought it to be. Rather, it is a warning for our benefit.
What is Doubt?
Doubt is instability, insecurity, or unbelief, brief or lasting. It can range from doubting one will win a game to doubting in God’s promise, but either way, it results in dysfunction of a type.
The cure to doubt is strong faith and even a stable identity in Christ, the Savior. Now, faith grows as a result of consistent prayer, and most importantly, reading the Word. But the devil really battles to prevent us from infusing ourselves with the scripture. Therefore, I will provide a few verses. Contemplate and meditate on them, for as little as a few minutes. Maybe even memorize them!
- Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. -1 Timothy 6:12
- Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. -Hebrews 11:1
- Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. -Ephesians 3:20
Feel free to let me know of any other verses that might help those who doubt! These are just verses that have helped me.
