Coping with Doubt

Coping with Doubt the Godly Way

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. -James 1:6

The one who doubts is described as a wave, unstable with each coming and passing circumstance. Unfortunately, I doubt. I believe everyone doubts something in their life. This verse isn’t meant to be condescending, as I once thought it to be. Rather, it is a warning for our benefit.

What is Doubt?

Doubt is instability, insecurity, or unbelief, brief or lasting. It can range from doubting one will win a game to doubting in God’s promise, but either way, it results in dysfunction of a type.

The Cure

The cure to doubt is strong faith and even a stable identity in Christ, the Savior. Now, faith grows as a result of consistent prayer, and most importantly, reading the Word. But the devil really battles to prevent us from infusing ourselves with the scripture. Therefore, I will provide a few verses. Contemplate and meditate on them, for as little as a few minutes. Maybe even memorize them!

  1. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. -1 Timothy 6:12
  2. Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. -Hebrews 11:1
  3. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. -Ephesians 3:20

Feel free to let me know of any other verses that might help those who doubt! These are just verses that have helped me.
